Essential Technologies for E-Commerce by Brancheau and Shi is a great guide for those desiring familiarity with building web-based applications. The book is compact, current, concise, clear and comprehensive. The action-oriented learning approach is to the point and allows learning by doing. With the current intense concern with e-commerce among business and academia, James Brancheau and Shi Nansi's book has been published at an important time. It is an especially useful contribution to the literature on the subject because it fills the gap between, on one hand, texts that deal with purely commercial questions and, on the other hand, those that are just concerned with technical aspects. –David Bennett, Professor of Technology Management, Aston University, UK

Finally, here is a long-awaited and exciting book on Web technologies. It skillfully organizes a rich set of concepts and knowledge for building Web sites and e-commerce. The array of hot technologies covered in this book forms an excellent resource for all levels of Web developers. – Vincent C. Yen, Professor of MIS, Wright State University, USA

Essential Technologies for E-Commerce provides an introduction to Java, ActiveX, various Distributed Computing Architectures (including CORBA), as well as SQL and DBI/DBD (among other topics). Until recently, there were few books that cover these topics at a level of overview suitable for non-computer science students. This book fills that gap by providing a gentle introduction to the technologies of e-commerce. The authors have done a tremendous service to the academic community. Everyone who teaches a course on E-commerce needs to take a look at this book to see where it fits in his or her curriculum. – Prof. Eli Cohen, Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Information Technology, Education & Webmaster,TeachIS.com website, USA
