This book provides a clear, comprehesive presentation of both the theory and applications in signals, systems, and transforms. It presents the mathematical background of signals and systems, including the Fourier transform, the Fourier series, the Laplace transform, the discrete-time and the discrete Fourier transforms, and the z-transform, with the contents of each chapter organized into well-defined units. Relating the mathematical theory of systems and signals to practical systems, this book includes chapters on state-variables for continuous-time and discrete-time systems. It presents the Fourier series as an error-minimization result for approximating periodic signals with the sum of sinusoidal signals. The book also includes short sections on the bilateral Laplace and Fourier transforms. The second edition of Signals, Systems and Transforms has been revised to include a number of changes. The book now focuses on introductory topics while presenting the latest capabilities of MATLAB. It also introduces the MATLAB simulation program SIMULINK to illustrate the simulation of continuous and discreete time systems and uses the symbolic mathematics of MATLAB to verify the calculations of transforms. This edition also provides some simplified examples while others now more clearly illustrate the theory. An essential reference for professional systems engineers.
