This volume was developed by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) in response to the training needs of the construction, maintenance, and pipeline industries. It is one of many in NCCER's ContrenLearning Series. The program, covering training for close to 40 construction and maintenance areas, and including skills assessments, safety training, and management education, was developed over a period of years by industry and education specialists.

NCCER also maintains a National Registry that provides transcripts, certificates, and wallet cards to individuals who have successfully completed modules of NCCER's ContrenLearning Series, when the training program is delivered by an NCCER Accredited training Sponsor.

The NCCER is a not-for-profit 501 (c)( 3) education foundation established in 1995 by the world's largest and most progressive construction companies and national construction associations. It was founded to address the severe workforce shortage facing the industry and to develop a standardized training process and curricula. Today, NCCER is supported by hundreds of leading construction and maintenance companies, manufacturers, and national associations, including the following partnering organizations:

FEATURES OF THIS BOOK

Capitalizing on a well-received campaign to redesign our textbooks, NCCER is publishing select textbooks in a two-column format. Welding Level Two incorporates the design and layout of our full-color books along with special pedagogical features. The features augment the technical material to maintain the trainees' interest and foster a deeper appreciation of the trade.

  • Think About It uses "What If?" questions to help trainees apply theory to real-world experiences and put ideas into action.
  • Hot Tip provides a head start for those entering the trade by highlighting important safety requirements and presenting tricks of the trade from experienced welders.

We're excited to be able to offer you these improvements and hope they lead to a more rewarding learning experience.

As always, your feedback is welcome! Please let us know how we are doing by visiting NCCER at www.nccer.org or e-mail us at info@nccer.org.

UNIQUE ASPECTS OF THE NEW AWS ENTRY LEVEL WELDER PROGRAM

In this new edition of the Contren ™ Welding series, you'll note features and icons which relate to the American Welding Society's (AWS) AWS EG2.0-95, Guide for the Training and Qualification of Welding Personnel: Entry Level. These features correlate with specific guidelines of AWS S.E.N.S.E. (Schools Excelling through National Skills Education) programs. But they can also be used as helpful tools in delivering and evaluating NCCER performance examinations.

This unique version of NCCER/Prentice Hall's welding program allows dual credentialing through both NCCER and AWS, provided all applicable requirements are met by the participating organizations.

For more information on AWS's Entry Level Welder program, contact AWS at (305) 443-9353 or visit www.aws.org. For information on NCCER's Accreditation and National Registry, contact NCCER Customer Service at 1-888-6223720 or visit www.nccer.org.
