Reviews

Not only is Brunette an attorney who conducts financial responsibility seminars for "substance abusers," but he himself has overcome credit problems. He offers good commonsense information, and knowing that credit woes may be emotionally based, he emphasizes counseling and includes a directory of credit counseling offices. His main recommendations--to establish credit by paying on time and communicating with creditors, for example--are admirably ethical, somewhat in contrast to Ralph Warner and Stephen Elias's Billpayers' Rights (Nolo Pr., 1987. 8th ed.), which, although it provides greater detail on legal procedures for specific problems, sometimes encourages avoidance, such as the suggestion that debtors move so they can't be found. Recommended for finance collections.
