Professors James and Parker of the University of Exeter in England have collected 2500 quotations on "what businessmen have said about themselves and their activities and what others have said about them." Selections from business and economics books, newspapers, magazines, and miscellaneous general reading are arranged into 215 topics, including insurance, poverty, labor, etc. Author and source follow each quote, and key word and author/source indexes are included. This volume is not only full of good quotes for speeches, but also provides amusing and, at times, thoughtful browsing. The material is predominantly British, however, with Australia and the United States covered to a lesser extent. Because of its American emphasis and a larger number of quotations (5000), The Macmillan Book of Business and Economic Quotations , edited by Michael Jackman ( LJ 2/1/85), will still be the first choice for most U.S. libraries. This is highly recommended as a second source.
