Harkness, a pharmacist, has written a book for laypersons that is well organized and easy to comprehend. Each entry lists the uses of the drugs involved, which drug's action is increased or decreased by an interaction with another drug, and the possible consequences. Graphs showing the possibility and severity of each interaction are useful. There is also a "What To Do" section on preventing or minimizing the interaction. The introductory pages of the book state this section is a guide for health professionals and caution the reader not to try to manage the interaction themselves. Considering people do not always read instructions, this warning should have been repeated in the text. Few drug information books for consumers provide this much detail on drug interactions, so this book is recommended for public libraries.
