The 5th edition of Sutton's An Introduction to Native North America is truly impressive, and may be the most thorough treatment of the subject that's currently available for college and university coursework. It contains a nice balance of ethnographic and contemporary information, providing the reader with a broad overview of pre contact, early historical, and modern Native lifeways, challenges, and accomplishments.
