Synopsis
This work takes as its standpoint the argument that computer software is the most important technique that has been developed for improving efficiency in the industrial age. The book describes how to set about addressing the software needs in an organization by means of a three-phase method, which incorporates measuring its information processing requirements and building an enterprise model; utilizing twelve basic types of software applications by standardizing the components of software systems; paying particular attention to the user interface and the integration of the users' views; and constructing and refining prototypes to achieve the required system. Each section of the book offers review questions and exercises and the answers to the questions are supplied in the appendix. The book is intended for the use of students interested in how business and organizational needs can be synthesized with computer software to maximize productivity.
