About the Author

Steve Marshall is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University. His areas of research include sociolinguistics and academic literacy in higher education. He is particularly focused on students making the transition from secondary to higher education. He is also interested in how learners from different social, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds develop their academic literacy in different ways. He currently coordinates and teaches SFU’s Foundations of Academic Literacy Course as well as a special topics course, Academic Writing for Graduate Students. He has previously taught English for Academic Purposes at University College London.
