With Statistics for Management, Levin and Rubin have provided a non-intimidating business statistics textbook that students can easily read and understand. Like its predecessors, the Seventh Edition includes the absolute minimum of mathematical/statistical notation necessary to teach the material. Concepts are fully explained in simple, easy-to-understand language as they are presented, making the text an excellent source from which to learn and teach. After each discussion, readers are guided through real-world examples to show how textbook principles work in professional practice.

EXCERPT: Preface - This is a short preface, because most of what is usually said in the preface is in the first chapter--things like what goals the book has, what methods are used, and a preview of each of the fifteen chapters. I predict that students will actually enjoy studying statistics from this book. I've taught courses like this for years and listened to the questions and complaints from students, so when I decided to write this book, may aim was to remove all the anxiety usually connected with the subject. I've tried to explain concepts will enough so that students could lean on the book instead of the teacher. It was fun writing this book. Most of my explanations are kind of long-winded, but I've always felt that it's hard to overexplain statistics. And I will admit that I do use a large number of illustrations to make a point; but then statistical methods aren't quite as easy to learn as some other things. So if you'll bear with my many illustrations and my excessive explanations, I think you'll like what we can do together. When an author makes an effort to simplify otherwise confounding concepts, it's tempting to do what teachers often call "black boxing"; that is, simply to say "it can be shown" whenever you come to a hard spot in the material. Another ploy authors often use is to "cheat" statistically a little and leave out some of the hard-to-explain statistical frills. I have tried faithfully to avoid either of these two traps. Instead, I have gone as far as I think it is possible to go with intuitive explanations and followed the practice of not including concepts that can't be intuitively explained and understood. I think you will find all the material in this book statistically and mathematically sound--overexplained, I will admit, but always on sound statistical grounds. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
