Synopsis
Engineers working in the area of fluid mechanics frequently need to be able to transform basic mathematical equations of fluid flow to deal with the various geometrics (cylinders, spheres, torses) of the systems with which they are concerned. The most straightforward way of achieving this is to use generalized tensor analysis. This book is directed at practising engineers and explains the basic concepts of tensor analysis for dealing with two-and three-dimensional (Euclidean) spaces of immediate concern, giving numerous examples of actual transformation of equations of fluid mechanics to a variety of curvilinear coordinate systems. This provides the engineer with a firm foundation on which to express any physical equation in any coordinate system without worrying about making elementary mistakes.
