A matter-of-fact man. Faber finds people tiring, regards feelings as 'fatigue phenomena', despises novels (and dreams). He loves machinery and statistics. On a flight to Central America Faber begins to act irrationally, as providence and his past catch up with him. He meets, as they travel back to Europe, the daughter he never knew he had. And as the lovers cross France and Italy, Faber, in mounting agony, blindly wrecks his career, his daughter and finally himself.' [Quote from rear cover]***'Max Rudolf Frisch (15 May 1911 ¿ 4 April 1991) was a Swiss playwright and novelist. Frisch's works focused on problems of identity, individuality, responsibility, morality, and political commitment. His use of irony is a significant feature of his post-war publications. Frisch was one of the founders of Gruppe Olten. He was awarded the Neustadt International Prize for Literature in 1986.'
