Incest is the ultimate taboo. Yet it is not, as previously thought, a rare occurrence limited to a handful of isolated and uneducated families, but a reality with which millions of Americans must cope. Incest is finally becoming a subject its victims are willing to talk about. Once a victim herself and now a psychotherapist specializing in its treatment, Susan Forward presents twenty-five case histories ranging from father and daughter, mother and son, siblings, grandfather and granddaughter, mother and daughter, to father and son. She shows how, with proper guidance, both victim and aggressor can put the experience into the proper perspective. Betrayal Of Innocence is the first book to discuss this repellent yet misunderstood subject with compassion and sensitivity.
