Synopsis

Who was the laughing, half-demented man in the mirror of the vintage car? What was the creature guarding Willy's aunt's house? Or the pulsing, jelly-like blob in the corner of the elevator? These chilling stories have one thing in common: the unexpected. Five spine-chilling stories "to savor, ponder, and read again".--Kirkus Reviews.

From School Library Journal

Grade 10-12-- Australian author Park has penned five stories of psychological horror. One tells of a boy who becomes terrified of elevators after encountering a blob with brown eyes. Another relates the tale of a haunted car that affects people's personalities. Inheriting a house from a relative is the theme of one of the stories. Hideous sibling rivalry and divorce are portrayed. The hazards of flying and the freedom it brings are the components of another. This is not the book for traditional horror fans. The plots are there but are bogged down in detail, and the endings are either convoluted or abrupt. The mood and tone are often uneven, leaving readers unsatisfied with the outcome. This works to an advantage, however, when interpreting the psychological aspects of each story. Characterization is often developed through dialogue that includes many Briticisms, making comprehension difficult. Things in Corners might be enticing to Stephen King readers as its selections bear a slight resemblance to the fright master's short stories, but the connection will have to be introduced. --Molly Kinney, Miami DadDade Pub .
