Synopsis
Cora, William and Alice are going to stay with their grandparents while their parents are on holiday. But Granny is in hospital and three children are too much for Grandpa to look after by himself, so Cora is sent next door to stay with Angelica. But Cora hates Angelica. And Angelica hates Cora.

About the Author
Nina Bawden is foremost among twentieth-century writers of fiction for children. A reviewer in Publishers Weekly wrote: "I'll come right out and say it. For my money, Miss Bawden can so no wrong. Her stories area a perfect blend of humor and suspense, and that's a blend difficult to achieve." Ms. Bawden was born in London, England, and lived there until she was evacuated with her school during the Blitz in World War II. She later attended Somerville College, Oxford. Eight-year-old Cora goes to live with her grandparents for six months only to discover that Granny is unable to take care of her. Cora stays with Angel, a neighbor just her age, who turns out to be a perfectly dreadful girl. She seems to mysteriously frighten even her mother and grandmother. Eve Karpf's subtle distinctions in voice and pitch seamlessly bring to life these characters from disparate age groups.
