Grade 6-8-Gutman selects what he considers the five most exciting World Series of all time-1912, 1924, 1947, 1975, and 1991-and supplies a play-by-play description of each game. The volume is well researched; the information is accurate and the author only uses quotes that have been documented in print or on tape. Told in an interesting and straightforward manner, the narrative avoids the overly descriptive prose that sportswriters relied on many decades ago. Well-chosen, captioned black-and-white photographs of players in action, posing, and celebrating appear throughout. This volume should not be confused with Bill Gutman's book of the same title (Random, 1973), which covers six different World Series. Baseball fans will love this one.
