Kindergarten-Grade 2-- Fourteen silly rhymed bits about different animals, designed to keep beginning readers smiling as they learn . "A shark hears a bark in the park," is the text on one lefthand page, while an ink and soft watercolor illustration on the facing page shows an anthropomorphized shark walking through the park with a worried look on his face, pursued by a small, angry dog. On each double spread of this amusing very easy reader, Stadler links three rhyming words in a brief sentence and illustrates the silly results, some of which are funnier than others: ``A goat in a coat sails a boat'' is predictable, but ``A crab tries to grab a cab'' is worth a chuckle when he appears on a city street with a briefcase.
