Oliver and Amanda Pig begin preparations for an entertaining Halloween holiday by making their costumes, getting a pumpkin for a jack-o'-lantern, and going trick-or-treating. Reprint.

PreSchool-Grade 2-- Another reassuring story about these delightful siblings. The strength comes from the relationship between the text and the delightful pencil-and-watercolor illustrations. Amanda doesn't want her costume, jack-o-lantern, or trick-or-treating to be scary. By compromise (and accident), she and Oliver create ``pigs from another planet'' costumes and have their father cut an unusual face on the pumpkin. While out trick-or-treating, Oliver calms his little sister's fears, but in the end, Amanda is the brave one. Young fans will enjoy reading and listening to this book as much as they did the previous stories about the appealing pig family. However, many adults may question children out on Halloween night without adult supervision and the unwrapped treats (donuts, cookies, and apples) that are distributed. Still, this is a high-quality holiday easy reader, but librarians need to assess how their patrons will react to such practices. --Gale W. Sherman, Pocatello Pub . Lib . , ID
