About the Author

Colin and Jacqui - a husband and wife team - are top children's writers and illustrators in the UK. Colin Hawkins was educated at art school in the north of England and then worked as an illustrator/designer for the Daily Express before working on magazines and in advertising. Jacqui Hawkins was trained as a graphic designer at Goldsmiths College. In 1979 the two had the idea to begin illustrating children's books together. Since then, Colin and Jacqui have created some of the most exciting books for children available today.

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-Grade 2 Just as Jen the Hen (1985) , Mig the Pig (1984) , and Pat the Cat (1983, all Putnam) told stories that emphasized specific phonetic bases, Tog the Dog relies on the base -og for the majority of its vocabulary. The clever format allows for the base to appear in large type on the final page, with the changing initial consonant appearing on half pages. This key word is used in a sentence on the left-hand page that forms part of Tog's minimal story. Large exuberant cartoon-like drawings illustrate Tog bumbling through a jogging path filled with obstacles. Along the way, various large and small animals make observations about his progress. A whimsical choice for pre- and beginning readers. Linda Wicher, Lincolnwood Public Library, Ill.
