About the Author
Chris Riddell was a student of Raymond Briggs at Brighton. He now works in many areas of illustration, including political cartoons for The Observer. He has illustrated many children's books, texts by other writers as well as his own. SOMETHING ELSE (by Kathryn Cave), won the 1997 UNESCO Prize and was shortlisted for the Greenaway Medal and the Smarties Prize. CASTLE DIARY (by Richard Platt), was shortlisted for the Greenaway Medal in 2000. Chris lives in Brighton.

A ride on his go-cart brings the story full circle; he crashes into a tree, causing the kite to fall and land in his lap, and he realizes that, "Today is my lucky day, after all!" Riddell's clean and clear ink-and-watercolor pictures perfectly depict the madcap adventures of this lovable hero who will always see the glass as half full. Pair this story with Judith Viorst's Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day (Atheneum, 1972) for a different way of handling a day when everything goes wrong. Platypus gets an A+ for attitude.
