reS-K-Timothy, Yoko, Nora, and Charles are some of Wells's familiar characters who reappear here, as they learn about life cycles, human senses, weather, and nutrition. Mrs. Jenkins introduces a subject and discusses it with her students. An activity follows, concluding with instructions for an activity not based in the book. For example, in the section on relative weights and properties, readers are asked to identify which objects in the picture sink and which ones float in a tub filled with water. The suggested project is to re-create the classroom experiment by testing a variety of your own objects for buoyancy in your own sink. The subjects flow seamlessly from page to page with no chapter headings or indication that a new topic is being introduced, so readers may be confused about where one topic ends and another begins. Koelsch's full-page illustrations are clear and easy to follow and show situations that pertain to the topic at hand. Since the subject matter is presented in such a straightforward manner and the activities can be conducted in a classroom as well as in the home or preschool, this is a good purchase for most collections.
