Synopsis
When Amy arrives home for her birthday tea, her parents have vanished and in their place is a baby she's never seen before. At around the same time Sprocket wakes up naked on a deserted mountainside and realises that he has lost his memory. Both kids set out on journeys to find the people they belong to, little knowing that they will soon join forces and embark, with the baby, on the deadliest quest of their lives. About the Author
Paul Jennings, a highly successful author, is concerned about making reading interesting and fun. His ROUND THE TWIST became a successful TV series and THE GIZMO movie is now showing in Australia. Morris Gleitzman was a screenwriter for TV and a newspaper columnist before beginning to write children's books. The play of TWO WEEKS WITH THE QUEEN was produced at the National Theatre, and BUMFACE was shortlisted for The Guardian Prize. Paul and Morris live in Australia.

Gleitzman and Jennings create yet another twisted episodic adventure for preteens. Sprocket, suffering from amnesia, wakes to find he's naked, hunted by a group of child commandos and a group of nasty, flabby-fleshed middle-aged nudist exercisers. Amy deals with growing suspicions that her father is having an affair and that he has an illegitimate love child, whom her mother may have murdered. It all comes together in six outrageous sections, as the young heroes encounter a variety of villains and appalling problems. Francis Greenslade and Melissa Eccleston perform the alternately voiced chapters with gusto. They deftly handle hyperbole, improbable situations, bathroom humor, nasal excreta, vomitus, and the other heaps of disgusting goop liberally deposited throughout, making DEADLY a surefire draw for younger kids.
