Jonathan London is the creator of twenty-three books about lovable and enduringly popular Froggy. He is also a poet and a novelist. Jonathan and his wife live in Graton, California.
PreS. London and Moore have created another delightful book featuring the sweet protagonist of Count the Ways, Little Brown Bear (2002). This time it's not Mama but Papa who spends the day with Little Brown Bear, and together they explore nature, play ball, fly kites, and climb trees. They practice the alphabet along the way, too, identifying a word beginning with each successive letter of the alphabet that is related to their activities. The appropriate letter is highlighted in a bright color and larger type size, and the corresponding images always feature an item or animal that sustains the alphabet theme. Finally, Papa Brown Bear tucks his little one into bed, and Little Brown Bear "zips" off to sleep. The bright, cheery illustrations have a charmingly old-fashioned air about them, although the animal characters' poses can seem stiff. Nonetheless, this is a fine choice to supplement collections of alphabet books, bear tales, or stories about fathers and sons. Jennifer Locke
