Synopsis

On 5 December 2001 New Zealand sporting and adventure hero Sir Peter Blake was killed by bandits at the mouth of the Amazon River. In this intimate account, Pippa Blake offers a private view of Sir Peter the husband and family man. Unpublished photographs from her personal albums, behind the scenes stories of Sir Peter's sailing adventures and Pippa's own journal entries and artworks provide a moving insight into a life shared with one of this country's greatest sporting legends. Pippa Blake was married to Sir Peter Blake for 22 years and shared many of his ocean racing adventures. After the birth of their two children, Sarah-Jane and James, Pippa remained intimately involved in Peter's round-the-world yachting campaigns, assisting with race preparations and even joining Peter and his crews on voyages. She competed alongside Sir Peter in the Sydney to Hobart yacht race, and sailed from the United Kingdom to the Southern Hemisphere on more than one occasion. A successful artist, Pippa continues to live and work agh the home she shared with Sir Peter in Emsworth, a seaside village in the south west of England. She is a regular visitor to new Zealand and serves as a trustee of the Sir Peter Blake Trust, which carries on the environmental and leadership work of Sir Peter after his tragic death in 2001.
