Reviews
Gr 2-4 Stories, poems, games, riddles, comic strips, folklore, superstitions, etc., that include the number seven. The theme has the inherent danger of being run into the ground, of being not always of interest to seven year olds (the seven deadly sins, for instance), and of being stretched unnaturally to fit its theme (Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17, 1706). The quality of writing and of illustration are uneven, and so is the length of some of the selections (E. Nesbit's ``Septimus Septimusson,'' surely one of her lesser works, runs on for 12 pages). If anyone really wants all the sevens gathered together, the collection is adequate; otherwise forget it. Carolyn K. Jenks, Oyster River Elementary Sch . , Durham, N.H.
