MICHAEL GARLAND has illustrated many popular books for children, including his own How Many Mice? and Miss Smith's Incredible Storybook, as well as Gloria Estefan's The Magically Mysterious Adventures of Noelle the Bulldog and Noelle's Treasure Tale. He lives in Putnam County, New York.

Kindergarten-Grade 1—In this level one reader, Mr. Hall gives his students jobs to do, and Beth's is to water the class plant. On alternating pages, she watches the other children at work and wishes she had their tasks. All ends well when her plant flowers and she is happy. The computer-generated illustrations almost fill the spreads, which include at most two sentences in a large font.
