Paul viewed Jesus Christ as marking the end of an era and the beginning of a new world and a new humanity. The author considers the implications of this centrality of Christ in relation to the people of God, to the new possibilities of human life, and to the Law, and follows Pauline Christianity into the generation after Paul himself, and then into the second century. The concentration is on theology, but matters of authorship and dating are discussed briefly where relevant. A number of key passages from the Pauline letters are given more extended treatment.

About the Author:
J. A. Ziesler, Senior Lecturer in Theology, University of Bristol.
Review:
`It provides an excellent introduction to Pauline theology for students embarking on the topic. It is lucidly written with a balanced overall perspective. It is both a readable and a reliable guide.'
Dr A T Lincoln, University of Sheffield

`Few studies of Paul have managed to pack such a wealth of detail into such a short compass and yet provide an eminently readable and clear narrative. Brevity demands not merely careful selection of material but a suitable ordering of that material, and ... [Ziesler's] book scores highly on
both counts.'
Expository Times

`Specialists will notice that Ziesler's treatment is balanced and comprehensive (the order of composition itself evinces a wholeness of view which is now commonly recognized to be lacking in many more ambitious treatments of the subject). He is candid about what is unclear and fair to the
numerous positions which he reviews in the course of his discussion.'
Heythrop Journal

`An adimirably clear and comprehensive study of Paul's theology - ideal for students beginning to explore this subject.'
J Barclay, University of Glasgow

`This book is an excellent introduction to Paul, steering skilfully through this minefields of current controversity among his interpretations, a model of lucidity and sense.'
Professor David Catchpole, University of Exeter

`The Oxford Bible Series has made life a lot easier with the provision of suitably shaped and priced textbooks.' Dr J. M. Court, Senior Lecturer, Department of Theology and Religious Studies, University of Kent, Canterbury

'an introduction assuming no awareness of the key discussion points ... the revised and up-dated version of Zieslet's balanced and comprehensive treatment in the Oxford Bible Series is to be welcomed for its combination of richness and brevity.'
Frances M. Young, University of Birmingham, Scottish Journal of Theology
