Sarah Fielding (1710-68) was the sister of Henry Fielding and a friend of Samuel Richardson. She turned to writing to support herself financially. 'David Simple' (1744) was her most popular novel and she also published a translation of Xenophon and the first critical study of Richardon's novel 'Clarissa'. Linda Bree has lectured at Queen Mary & Westfield College London, and the University of Essex and is now a commissioning editor at CUP. She is the author of a study of Sarah Fielding.
