9780192755841: Revenge of the Demon Headmaster

Synopsis

Hunky Parker is the new craze. His drooling, dribbling pig face is everywhere: on T-shirts and badges, and there are even horrible pig-trotter trainers and pig-swill yogurts in the shops. But it's when the Hunky TV shows air nationally that the trouble really begins. Suddenly, people are going
crazy for Hunky goods . . . and when the shops have sold out, dangerous rioting starts.

Dinah and her friends are suspicious. Is it really just a trend, or is something more sinister afoot? Watching a Hunky video provides a valuable clue. Dinah and the rest of SPLAT set off in search of the real Hunky Parker. But someone is blocking them at every turn-someone who wants to keep the
identity of Hunky Parker a secret . . .

. . . Someone who plans to control the entire nation!

'Gillian Cross's novels should be prescribed for all cases of reading reluctance among eight- to ten-year-olds. The Revenge of the Demon Headmaster has the same sort of appeal as 'Famous Five' or 'Secret Seven' novels.'

About the Author

Gillian Cross was born in 1945, and has written more than 40 books for children. In the past, she has worked in a primary school, as an assistant to a village baker, as a childminder, and as an assistant to a member of parliament. Gillian is a huge supporter of libraries, and for eight years
was a member of the committee which advises government ministers about public libraries. She now lives in Warwickshire with her husband and family, and enjoys playing the piano, orienteering, and reading in her spare time.

Review

[Of The Revenge of the Demon Headmaster]:
"Well-crafted, interesting and tense."

--Amazon review

"Gillian Cross is one of the best children's novelists today and her stories of the Demon Headmaster are both fun and quite frightening. In The Revenge of the Demon Headmaster she takes the general message of George Orwell's Animal Farm and reworks it for younger readers . . . gripping stuff"
--Daily Telegraph

"Gillian Cross's many Demon Headmaster fans will love this book with its new slant on subliminal power . . . This fast-moving story has lots of tension and excitement, as well as a chilling cautionary theme . . . Great stuff!"

--School Librarian

"an imaginative story involving adventure and fun"

--Sunday Independent - West Country

[Of The Demon Headmaster]:
"a rattling good yarn"

--TLS

"a light-hearted, funny and ingenious story"

--School Librarian

"an excellent mystery with an unusual setting"

--Good Book Guide - Children's

"I would recommend it to anyone who likes weird but funny books"

--Teen Titles

"an attractive, easy-flowing style with interesting characters and a lively story"

--Junior Education
