About the Author
Sir Herbert Grierson (1866-1960), scholar, first professor of English literature at Aberdeen University, 1894-195; professor of rhetoric and English literature at Edinburgh University 1915-35. His books include Metaphysical and Lyrics and Poems of the Seventeenth Century (1921); The Oxford
Book of Seventeenth Century Verse (1934, with G. Bullough); co-editor of 12-vol. edition of Sir Walter Scott's letters (1932-37) and published a biography of Scott (1938).
