Synopsis

Inside Writing is the first ESL / EFL textbook on the market targeted to university or high school students that teaches the genre-based approach to writing. The genre-based approach prepares students to write texts in the same way native speakers do, by analyzing authentic samples of a text type and analyzing them for the most important language features.

Based on the research of John Swales and the work of Nigel Caplan and Jennifer Bixby, the genre-based approach helps students learn how to learn. It also prepares students to write the actual kinds of texts that they will encounter in their academic studies and beyond.
Inside Writing Intro is the first book in the series, for the lowest levels. It focuses on simpler text types such as:
  1. Routine
  2. Narrative Report
  3. Magazine Article
  4. Personal Narrative
  5. Website FAQ
  6. Analysis
  7. Summary
  8. Public Service Announcement
  9. Review
  10. Persuasive Letter

Inside Writing, as part of the Inside Reading series pioneered by Cheryl Boyd Zimmerman also teaches target vocabulary from the Academic Word List. Exercises focus on not only comprehension but also production, ensuring that students have the language skills and vocabulary knowledge necessary to produce excellent and effective academic writing.
