Designed to educate clients on effective lifestyle management, this program focuses on client education and teaching clients how to manage craving and reduce the risk of relapse. The client learns about the nature of their problem, underlying causes, and effective cognitive coping strategies by which to take control of their lives and initiate positive change. This recovery workbook provides clients with practical information and skills to help them understand and change their problem with alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs, such as marijuana, cocaine, pills, or heroin. It is designed to be used in therapy or counseling and will help clients focus on specific issues involved in stopping substance use and in changing behavior or aspects of their lifestyle that keep their substance abuse problem active. The information presented in this workbook is derived from research studies of substance abuse treatment and the authors' many years of experience working with clients who have alcohol, tobacco, and other drug problems. The book discusses the most effective and helpful recovery issues and change strategies form studies of cognitive-behavioral treatment, coping skills training, and relapse prevention. These studies focus on the importance of changing beliefs, thinking, and behaviors.

About the Author
Dennis C. Daley is director of the Center for Psychiatric and Chemical Dependency Services and an assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Department of Psychiatry, and at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic in Pittsburgh. Mr. Daley has been involved in managing and providing treatment services for alcohol and drug problems for two decades. He has published many family and client educational books, workbooks, and videotapes on recovery from alcohol and drug problems, recovery from psychiatric disorders, recovery from dual disorders, and relapse prevention. Mr. Daley teaches on these subjects throughout the United States and other countries. He is also involved in several federally funded research projects on treatment of cocaine addiction and the treatment of dual disorders. Mr. Daley authored the highly nuccessful Living Sober Interactive Videotape Series and the Promise of Recovery Educational Videotape Series.
