Synopsis
Reforms transformed the operating environment, financial arrangements, business and administrative relationships, as well as internal structure of Chinese state-owned industrial enterprises during the 1980s. This book analyzes these changes and their impact on enterprise behavior and performance from the perspective of individual firms, through a series of detailed case studies. The case studies show what the editor believes to be the fundamental problems of a system relying on administrative control over enterprises and what he shows to be the distortions induced by partial reform.
