PreSchool-Grade 2-- It's bedtime, and even though Louis gets cuddles and snuggles from his parents, he comes up with one excuse after another to explain why he can't fall asleep. The fact is, he is afraid of the dark. While gazing at the sky through his telescope, the boy wishes that he could live on a planet where the lights are on all night. All of a sudden, he finds himself soaring off to visit one planet after the other, none of which seems to be quite what he had in mind. By the time he reaches Pluto, he's feeling cold and alone. Then Louis heads toward a planet that looks promising, only to discover that he has returned to his own home. His parents plug in a star-shaped night-light, and soon he is fast asleep. An obvious goal of this story is to introduce children to the planets of our solar system, but the plot is contrived.
