Robert Garner is professor of politics in the Department of Politics and International Relations, University of Leicester. Peter Ferdinand is reader in politics and international studies at the Department of Politics and International Studies and director of the Centre for Studies in Democratisation at the University of Warwick. Stephanie Lawson is professor in Asia-Pacific studies in the Department of Politics and International Studies, University of Birmingham. David MacDonald is associate professor of politics at the University of Guelph. He earned his Ph.D. in international relations from the London School of Economics; his research focuses on international relations, nationalism, identity politics, and American foreign policy, and he has a long-standing interest in comparative indigenous politics in Western settler societies, namely New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and the US. Dr MacDonald has written a number of articles and book chapters and has authored three books. This is his first textbook.
