Shamsur Rahman Faruqi did his MA in English Literature and entered the Indian Administrative Service from where he retired as Post Master General. He burst on the literary scene with his journal Shabkhoon Allahabad 1966 - 2006 which became organ of the New Literature which comprised experimental fiction, prose-poetry and Post Structuralist Criticism. Since it coincided with the waning of the Progressive Writers Movement, Faruqi's journal and his influence as a literary critic spread high and wide. His works include Tafhim-e-Ghalib, She'r Shor Ange, She'r Ghair Sher aur Nazar. Faruqi is the recipient of many literary awards.
