Synopsis
This book examines a hitherto neglected aspect of the War of American Independence, providing the first wide-ranging exploration of the impact of this conflict upon the economy, society, and culture of the British Isles. Stephen Conway sheds new light on recent debates about the war-waging efficiency of the British state and on the role of war in the creation of a British national identity. This is a probing account of the profound impact of the war which further challenges the established model of eighteenth-century wars as being 'limited' in the demands and effects.

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. This First Edition & first printing hardback was published by OUP in 2000. The ABE Stock Image photograph is accurate for this copy (but not the blurring!). The condition of the book is 'Near Fine' and that of the dust-jacket which has a nice protective cover is 'Fine'. The book is bound with black binding paper on stiff boards. The spine titles are in gilt. The main text of the book has 407 numbered pages. The size of the book in inches is 8.8 x 5.7 and it weighs 0.64 kg. As with all our sales of books within the UK, we only ever charge a flat standard delivery cost of £3.35.
