Synopsis
The Literacy Kit is an innovative range of resources to support the introduction of the National Literacy Strategy at Key Stage 3, or for use in any literacy lesson. Used together, the components make up a complete literacy course. Components can also be used separately with existing schemes of work, providing a thorough yet flexible package. Sentence Level Lesson Starters Box Pacy, interactive and investigative openings to literacy lessons are an integral part of the NLS approach. Each box contains teaching notes giving ideas and guidance for meeting all the word or sentence level objectives for the whole of Key Stage 3, supported by ready-made resources to put the ideas into practice. Resources include ready-made word and punctuation cards; OHTs; playing cards; and photocopy masters.

About the Author
Geoff Barton is a teacher and best-selling author of Comprehension to 14. Michaela Blackledge was Literacy Coordinator in an NLS pilot school, and is now Literacy Consultant for pilot LEA Wakefield. Joanna Crewe is a Literacy Coordinator and teacher; along with Jane Flintoft, she appears on NLS training videos designed to model excellence in literacy teaching.
