Synopsis
Throughout the world there is a need to control forest insect pests. The concept of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is central to the sustainable management and control of forest insects, rather than the use of costly and potentially hazardous direct control measures such as pesticides. The effectiveness of these techniques is cloesly linked to the ecological and life history characteristics of both trees and target pest species. A central theme of this logical context of the major components of IPM, and how and when to apply them in the management of forest instect pests of both temperate and tropical forests.
