Synopsis
This volume explores the various aspects and applications of microprocessor-controlled electronic drives, a growing new technology which has recently impacted the area of power electronics. It emphasizes the manipulation and use of low and medium power motors which are useful in the motion control of robots, computer peripherals, and other appliances. Power Electronics for the Microprocessor Age begins with a general overview of the relationship between computers, power circuitry, and motors. It then provides full chapter guidance on a.c.-to-d.c. converters, servo-amplifers, stepping-motor drives, and inverters. The author also sets forth a unique theory on the pulse-width modulation technique for inverters, and describes a useful method for position control using a d.c. motor. Complete in one volume, the text covers theory, practical circuits and software, and is illustrated with over 290 machine cutaways views and circuit diagrams.
