Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Immediate dispatch from Somerset. Nice book in great condition. Pages in excellent condition. Hardcover. English. See images for condition. About the book >.>.> The family Cotingidae is one of a small number of passerine families that evolved and differentiated in South America during the many millions of years that it was isolated from other major land masses. Most of the species are specialised fruit-eaters, and have co-evolved with the forest flora on which they depend. The 65 currently recognised species are a very diverse assemblage, ranging in size from the umbrellabirds - among the largest of passerine birds to the tiny purpletufts and kinglet calyptura. They include some of the most brilliantly plumaged of all birds; some species are ornamented with bizarre fleshy wattles, and others have peculiarly modified display plumage. Courtship behaviour is elaborately developed in the family. The book aims to present a comprehensive, well illustrated account of the family, which has never previously been monographed. The author and his wife have had a long-continued interest in the cotingas, and between them have studied many species in the field. A number of other species.
