Synopsis
Written for electrical, electronic, and mechanical engineers in both industry and academic research, this volume describes the concepts and technological advances in "power electronics"--the revolutionary uses of electric power conversion and control. The first half of the book introduces the basic concepts of power electronics, and describes the circuits and various semiconductor devices (such as power transistors and thyristors) that are employed. The second half focuses on the many applications of power electronics such as control of underground trains, precision control of robot arms, and the provision of uninterruptible power supplies for computers. The book incorporates the accumulated experience of top specialists with Japan's Mitsubishi Electric Corporation.
