Originally published under the names Dias and Markesinis, this is an acclaimed guide to torts for students and practitioners. The authors explain why and how this branch of the law is so intellectually untidy, and they show how it has suffered as a result of conflicting judicial, academic and
legislative attempts to shape and rationalize it.

New to this edition:

For the new edition, the text has been substantially rewritten by Simon Deakin and Basil Markesinis. The treatment of the subject is now far more detailed and the sections on product liability, damages, medical liability, and privacy have been expanded. A new section, on governmental liability, has
added substantially to the length of the book and to its topicality and usefulness.

Review:
`an excellent work'
F.G. du Bois, SOAS, University of London

`Excellent text, covers all the material, clear and well written.'
Norma Hird, University of Sheffield

`Its great strengths are: (a) the comparative dimension, sadly lacking in so many Tort texts; and (b) the drawing in of material on Contract. The book has a broad sweep and is exciting to read.'
Michael G. Bridge, University of Nottingham

`Excellent. Best tort text available. Now the most stimulating on the market.'
Andrew Grubb, King's College

`A well presented book which is popular with students because it is sufficiently detailed for degree level but also clear and interesting to read.'
Sue Deebank, University of Birmingham

`Students like the clear style of this book.'
Evelyn Ellis, University of Birmingham

`Excellent - this text goes from strength to strength. Comprehensive covering all aspects of tort law with sufficient academic rigour.'
A. Housie, Staffordshire University

`A very strong book indeed, impressive in its extent of coverage yet still managing to remain easy to follow.'
Demetrius Andreas Flondas, Anglia Business School

`An excellent and clear analysis of the law for law students with a useful critical dimension.'
P.R. Ghandhi, University of Reading
