First Edition. acknowledgements, illustration acknowledgements, preface by author, bibliography and index. The text is illustrated with both black and white photographs and architectural plans throughout. Beige coloured cloth covered boards with silver coloured titles to the backstrip. The title says it all, with the book been divided into five sections:  Part I, Historical Background and Early Years of the Century to 1918, Part II, Tradition, Transition and Change 1919-1941, Part III, Functionalism, Logic and Light 1924-1942, Part IV, Political Determinism and Classical Monumentality 1930-1940 and Part V Towards a Better Physical Environment 1943-1970. Each particular movement have numerous examples given. Softening of the backstrip edges with bumping of the book corners. Slight cocking of the spine and there is a crease that runs the full length of the backstrip. The hinges have become somewhat "loose". Light browning and scattered foxing of the text block edges, though, only light age toning of the pages. Previous owner's name to the top right-hand corner of the front panel and there has been sunning to the first quarter of the free front endpaper  please see photograph. A few handling marks to the endpapers. The remains, and I do mean the remains, of the dust jacket are placed loosely in the book. Size: 4to 9¾" - 12" tall.
