Styles
Think of styles as containers holding most character and paragraph attributes. These containers can be applied to any paragraph with a single click.
And that's the true power of styles: being able to format a paragraph (or several paragraphs) with many different character and paragraph formats at once.
Think of how you typically apply formatting to paragraphs: first, the paragraph is selected. Then, each of the attributes is selected and modified in turn, until all the changes are complete. With a few changes, such as font, size, leading, tracking, and alignment, that can take up to a minute or more. Maybe that doesn't sound like much time-until you consider that formatting is almost a continuous procedure in PageMaker.
Styles can also automate your work in PageMaker, taking you from style to style automatically (via the handy Next Style function).
Styles can be created, edited, deleted, and applied within the Styles palette (Figure 1), accessed from the Window menu, or by pressing Ctrl+B.The following steps require that you have the Styles palette visible. You can display the Styles palette by pressing Ctrl+B, or by choosing WindowShow Style.
