To model multiplication, students skip count on the hundreds chart and make arrays to represent all combinations with factors 2 through 12. They solve word problems and discuss the relationship between the situations and standard notation. Emphasis is on 2-digit times 1-digit multiplication problems and division by 1-digit divisors. Suggested pacing: 16 sessions.
