Preface
The Guide to Network Resource Tools (GNRT) is produced by TERENA (Trans-European
Research and Education Networking Association) for the user community of its
member academic and research networks.
Though primarily intended for network users and user support staff in this community,
it is made freely available via the WWW to encourage and facilitate network
use.
Background
The GNRT was originally produced by EARN (European Academic and Research Network).
Printed as a booklet and registered in the Internet Engineering Task Forceís
FYI series, it became a very popular guide for end-users and support staff on
using the Internet. In 1996 an update of the GNRT was started by EARNís
successor, the Trans-European Research and Education Networking Association
(TERENA), which resulted in a completely new version, written for the Web, covering
a wide range of popular tasks and tools on the Internet today. In 1998, this
version was published as a book entitled Internet User's Guide to Network Resource
Tools by Addison-Wesley Longman. The GNRT is revised on an ongoing basis by
TERENA.
Acknowledgements
The principal author of the TERENA GNRT is Margaret Isaacs .
TERENA Project Development Officer, Yuri Demchenko, provided technical support
and project development. A Review Panel representing the user community reviews
the work before public release.
The members of the Review Panel are: Dave Hartland (Newcastle University/NetSkills),
Miroslav Milinovic (SRCE/CARNet), Pl Axelsson (Uppsala University), Yvonne van
Holsteijn (SURFnet), Yuri Demchenko (TERENA), Karel Veitsch (TERENA).
