"Everyday Reading Skills" gives tips and practice on how to research the Internet and how to read newspapers, magazines, advertisements, reference materials, fiction and non-fiction, and workplace mail. "Reader's Tips Boxes" condense advice into practical hints for quick reference. Collaborative problem solving questions offers four different questions at the end of each chapter to brainstorm ideas, think critically, and reflect on chapter instruction. "Explore the Net" exercises, following each of the three longer reading selections, encourage research on topics related to the longer reading; specific Websites are suggested. For anyone interested in improving their reading skills at the 6-9th grade reading level.

About the Author

Brenda D. Smith, Professor Emeritus at Georgia State University, has more than 30 years of teaching experience. Her books have helped more than 100,000 students become better readers. Awarded with the "Outstanding Article in the Journal of Developmental Education" by the National Association of Developmental Educators two years in a row, and named "Distinguished Alumni Professor" by the Georgia State University Alumni Association, Dr. Smith continues to be recognized for her contributions to the field of reading skills.
