Excerpt: ... BIBLE POLITICS. "The kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given;to the people of the saints of the Most High."--Dan. vii. 27. HE Bible has helped to shape the politics of nations from the time of Moses to the present. Containing a body of divine laws, it governed the Hebrews. Its influence extended beyond them. It struck chords which vibrated to the remotest nations. In its modern form, the Old and New Testaments combined, it has influenced the policies of eastern and western nations. It formed the foundation of Mohammedanism, and helped to give it direction and force. It is the source of the whole history of modern Europe. The question arises, Why, as a divine book, has it not yet effected its purpose of giving a divine policy on earth? The answer is obvious. Ignorance has prevented a right interpretation, and when ignorance is partially dispelled, selfishness prevents a right application. It has been misrepresented and perverted. It has been mutilated by false renderings, and in a disjointed form has been used to favour human purposes. It is not necessary to find fault with the misinterpretation; good results, according with the temper of the times, have flowed from it. The time is now arrived when the Bible shall exert its intended influence, that of giving a divine policy which shall lead men to " beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruning-hooks.", The gospel, hitherto weakened by perversion, is to result in the government of mankind, and to give to earth a divine policy. "Know ye not the saints shall rule the world." And as pronounced by Daniel over two thousand years ago, and now to take effect, "The saints of the Most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ...
