He investigates the mistakes, achievements, ironies and failures of intelligence, technology, planning and policies of both the Allied and Axis powers. Why wasn't the British government better prepared for the devastation of the Blitz? Why didn't Hitler put more support into his U-boat program. The insights are brilliant and intriguing. Finally, Deighton warns that the lessons of the War remain unheeded. Racial hatred once more rears its head in ethnic cleansing, the widening gap between the world's rich and poor promises economic migration on a frightening scale, and turmoil still reigns in the Middle East.
About the Author
Born in London, Len Deighton served in the RAF before graduating from the Royal College of Art (which recently elected him a Senior Fellow). While in New York City working as a magazine illustrator he began writing his first novel, ‘The Ipcress File’, which was published in 1962. He is now the author of more than thirty books of fiction and non-fiction. At present living in Europe, he has, over the years, lived with his family in ten different countries from Austria to Portugal.
